Webinar Description: Literature has the power to build our capacity for empathy, shared understanding, and stronger communities. Facing History & Ourselves has selected George Takei’s graphic memoir, They Called Us Enemy, for this year’s All Community Read.
During this webinar, we’ll discuss what freedom means in a democracy—during World War II and today. Educators will leave with Facing History resources and strategies for teaching historical context, perspective-taking, ethical reflection, and cultivation of empathy in order to nurture students’ capacity for informed and engaged citizenship.
